April 2018: On 4/9/2018, CSUMB successfully upgraded its Student Information System from 9.0 to 9.2. In addition, the database was split to part Student from Employee data. Doing so allowed us the opportunity to rename our systems: "OASIS" for Student Information and "CMS Employee Resources" for Employee Information. All CSUs will eventually upgrade and split their systems as well. CSUMB was part of a cohort of CSUs who went live April 2018. The project lasted approximately 6 months and required a major collaborative effort between SIS, ASM (Administrative Systems Management), IS (Information Systems) Programmers and Functional Unit Analysts and their designated testers. Overall the project went smoothly with few issues reported by the broad user base from students to employees. For some time, our campus has been talking about renaming CMS to one that adds a CSUMB vibe. Our students were invited to participate in a "Rename" contest and successfully chose OASIS. Great job students and thank you too!
November 2017: SIS worked with Admissions, the Chancellor's Office and Graduate Departments on campus to replace CSU Mentor with CalState Apply. This was a CO mandated project for all CSUs. It was a painstaking effort and required hours of set up, testing, and coordinating among various departments and units. Although many challenges were experienced by our applicants, the whole CSU experienced the same issues. The CO is working diligently with the new software vendor to correct and improve CalState apply for a much more improved application experience for future terms. In addition to setting up the main admissions application, many of the departments worked tirelessly to transition their Supplemental Major Admissions Applications from a legacy system to CalState Apply. This was truly a major collaborative effort and overall, the project was completed as well as expected. Thank you to the many included in the project team.
September 2017: SIS worked with Records and the Office of Inclusive Excellence to set up a process that enables students to voluntarily respond to questions about their sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression via their Student Center in OASIS. Student responses will be kept private and secure, and will be used for summary demographic reporting only (no individual identities will be revealed). Additionally, students may change their responses at any point during the year by returning to the same page in OASIS Student Center. Summary demographic reporting will be used to better support all of our student populations. We encourage your response and look forward to more accurately reflecting the identities of our diverse campus community. This process allows CSUs to be in compliance with the California Assembly Bill (AB) 620, Section 2 (2011). If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Office of the Registrar.
September 2017: SIS worked with Records, IT and an external vendor to set up an online transcript ordering process. In addition to operational efficiency gained from this process, it allows for the additional option of sending transcripts electronically through email.
September 2017: SIS worked with International Programs and IT to develop an online form with workflow to allow external recruiters to confirm prerequisites for a consistent process to ensure students are adequately prepared to succeed in each course requiring prerequisites.
