Program Structure

CS Online Commencement
  • CS Online is a year-round 24 month program with fall, spring, and summer terms
  • Students may start in either the fall or spring and will follow the same course pathway regardless of starting term
  • The program consists of 13 pre-defined courses and elective courses including:
    • 10 courses worth 4 units each
    • 3 courses worth 3 units
    • Enough elective courses to meet the 120 unit graduation requirement (typically 1 course totaling 1 unit)
  • Students take one class at a time for 8 weeks each, with the exception of two terms where students take two classes.
  • The program has two breaks per year: a short break between summer & fall, and a longer break between fall & spring
  • Students in CS Online are automatically pre-registered in courses by program coordinators, eliminating the hassle of self-registration
Required Courses

The online experience

  • Enjoy a primarily self-paced weekly schedule, learning through pre-recorded lectures, assigned readings, and online classroom discussions
  • Students can expect weekly assignment due dates and quizzes
  • Students are generally not required to be online at specific times, except for course orientations, proctored mid-term and final exams, and occasional meetings with professors
  • In keeping with the CSUMB vision, all CSUMB students are required to participate in a for-credit Service Learning experience (CST 361S). CS Online students may choose to pursue their Service Learning online or in-person in their local communities.
  • At the conclusion of the program, CS Online students will receive the same diploma as on-campus Computer Science students.
