CS Online FAQs

What makes CS Online classes different from a traditional classroom and what is the structure?

CS Online classes are designed as fully online, collaborative, highly interactive, faculty and teaching assistant supported classes using a learning management system called iLearn.

The 8-week classes start with an online real-time video conference orientation on Saturday morning where faculty, TA, and students introduce each other and overview the course syllabus and contents.

In the weeks that follow, students receive their weekly instruction on Wednesday morning. Between Thursday and Monday of the next week, students spend 12-16 hours total to review lectures, video and reading assignments and collaborate with their team of 3-5 students on hands-on assignments. They can get help and clarification from TA or faculty via email or Google Hangouts. Assignments and quizzes are usually due on Tuesday of the following week.

There is usually a collaborative project and/or a final proctored test during the last week.
