Summer 2019 First Time Freshmen Orientation Schedule

See below for the 2019 Summer 2019 Orientation schedule. First time freshmen dates are June 24, 25, 27, 28, and 29. Please note that Spanish speaking supporter programs are available on June 28 and 29. Students will receive an email to their CSUMB email address the week before orientation giving them logistical details about what to bring, where to park, and other helpful information.

Student Track

The following is the schedule for students attending orientation. Each student will be matched with an Otter Orientation Leader and a group based on their major.

Note: Resource/Involvement fair and workshop offerings are subject to change based on departmental availability.

8:00am-9:00amResource FairAfter checking in, you'll have the opportunity to interact with tabling departments, ask them questions, and gather resources to help you navigate orientation and prepare you for your transition to CSUMB. List of tabling resources can be found at this link. Note: breakfast snacks and coffee will be available in the University Center Ballroom.University Center Conference Rooms (114-116)
9:00am-9:45amOrientation WelcomeThe official orientation welcome! Participants will receive an address from CSUMB's Provost, Dean of Students, Student Body President, as well as experience a fun welcome from the Otter Orientation Leader Team.University Center Ballroom
9:45am-10:00amOtter Orientation Leader IntroductionThis is your opportunity to meet your orientation leader! Students will be broken into groups by their major and given instructions for how to navigate the day's events. Don't have a major selected? You'll be instructed to choose a major you're interested in.Various locations (follow your OOL!)
10:00am-10:40amRotating Workshop Session 1CSUMB offers many resources, services, and involvement opportunities to help you thrive. Click this link to see the listing of workshops available to choose from. All workshops will be offered during each session.Various locations

12:15pm-1:15pmLunch w/ Orientation Groups and Involvement FairJoin your Otter Orientation Leader and the group of students from your major as you eat lunch, develop connections, and get to know students you'll be taking classes with. During lunch there will also be an involvement fair for you to interact with departments promoting their opportunities for engagement. Click this link to see which departments will be tabling.In front of University Center
1:15pm-2:15pmGroup A: Title IX/Clery/Financial AidDuring this session you'll experience important workshops discussing CSUMB's reporting culture, your rights as a student, and loan entrance counseling with a financial aid advisor. Groups are determined by your orientation group. Be sure to listen to your leader!University Center Ballroom
1:15pm-2:15pmGroup B: Academic AdvisingOrientation groups will be lead by their leaders to meet with their major's academic advisor. During this session you will learn about navigating your OASIS account, adding classes to your shopping cart, and learning what classes you'll need to enroll in during your first semester.Various locations
2:15pm-3:15pmGroup A: Academic AdvisingOrientation groups will be lead by their leaders to meet with their major's academic advisor. The following is the schedule for supporters of students during orientation. Please note that you will not be with your student for the majority of the day.

10:45am-11:30amExpert Staff PanelSupporters will have the opportunity to ask questions of staff members from various student support departments on campus including Housing, the University Police Department, Health and Wellness, the Campus Service Center, Dining Services, and Student Engagement and Leadership Development.World Theater
11:30am-11:45amParent and Family ClubHear from CSUMB's parent and family relations to know more about how to be informed about all that's happening on campus and what you can be involved in as a part of the RAFT.World Theater
11:45am-12:45pmLunch and Student PanelSupporters will have the opportunity to ask all their questions to current CSUMB students, getting the full picture of what life is like at CSUMB. Lunch will be served.University Center Ballroom
12:45pm-1:30pmFinancial Aid for SupportersFinancial aid will give a workshop providing information about financial aid, loan and scholarship information, as well as important deadlines and action items to remember to stay on top of finances at CSUMB.World Theater
1:30pm-2:15pmAcademic Information PanelSupporters will have the opportunity to ask questions of staff members from various academic departments including the Center for Advising, Career, and Student Success, the Cooperative Learning Center, First Year Seminar, and the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Center.World Theater
