Dr. John E. "Buck" Banks, Director of the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Center (UROC), recently announced that Dr. Kelly Medina-Lopez, Assistant Professor, School of Humanities & Communication in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, has been named ther ecipient of the UROC Mentor of the Year Award. She will be honored at the UROC Year-End Celebration on May 10.

VPA Alumna (fall 18) Nada Abdelshahid was awarded the Moon Gate commission to develop and implement 2 designs for Moon Gate Plaza in Chinatown, Salinas.
Jonathan Dudrey and Kieran ‘Kai’ Jones participated in the 7th Annual Bay Area Japanese Speech Contest held March 30, 2019 at San Jose City College, and came home winners! Congratulations to Jonathan for his first-place finish and Kai on her second place win. Many thanks and congratulations to faculty member Ms. Tomoko Ogaki for coaching these students to a successful experience.

The Trauma Outcomes and Recovery (TOAR) Lab was well represented at this year’s annual meeting of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies. This year’s theme was “Promoting Societal Change: Integrating Traumatic Stress Research, Practice and Policy for Vulnerable Populations.”
