VPA Alumna Nada Abdelshahid Awarded Sun & Moon Gate Design Commission

Congratulations to VPA Alumna (fall 2018) Nada Abdelshahid, awarded the Moon Gate commission to develop and implement two designs for Moon Gate Plaza in Chinatown, Salinas. These gates will add distinctive character to the architecture, anchoring the new Moon Gate Plaza (a MidPen Housing development) to the historical strands of the Chinatown neighborhood. Asian Cultural Experience (ACE), a local organization dedicated to preserving, promoting and enriching the history and multicultural identity of Salinas Chinatown, has elected Abdelshahid to design and create two gates–one gate that honors the Chinese Moon Gate and another gate that is inspired by the sun on the Philippine flag.
