School Social Work Scholarships

CSUMB has been awarded a competitive grant from the Personnel Development Program (PDP), a federal program managed at the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), which allows us to offer scholarships of $20,810 to 30 students between 2017-2022.

Focused student in class.

Eligibility and Requirements

School Social Work Scholarship opportunities of $20,810 will be awarded to ten students each year. This will cover two years of tuition, books, & technology needs! Applicants must first apply via the MSW application + supplemental School Social Work application, indicate their interest in the scholarship, and be accepted to the School Social Work Program. Staff and faculty will review all applications holistically- we will review an applicant's past GPA, writing strength, demonstration of professional social work values/experiences, and a statement of interest specific to their professional or personal experience in K-12 schools. An in-person interview may be required. We will notify applicants of the scholarship at the same time they are alerted of their acceptance into the program between March and April. Scholarship recipients must have a meeting with the Program Coordinator prior to the start of the school year before receiving the scholarship.

Service/Employment Obligation

Scholarship recipients are required to work as a social worker in a school-based setting (or related services) for two years for every year of scholarship support they receive or they are required to repay the scholarship amount. OSEP monitors a scholar's service fulfillment via Pre-Scholarship Agreement and Exit Certification contracts. To find out more, please visit the OSEP webpage.
