Once you have registered for your on-line service learning course, you must take the following steps to assure you have a service learning site placement for the semester BEFORE you begin your service.
Contact your Service Learning faculty to inquire about any special requirements for your placement.
Log in to MySLP. Choose Advanced Search, then search by “City”, "Organization Type" or any other criteria your faculty has designated.
Call potential community partner sites to see if they are able to accommodate you for the semester.
Register for your site on MySLP. (Please note there may not be a site in your immediate city/area. You may need to travel to a neighboring city in your region.)
Identify an Appropriate Site. If there is not an approved site in your area, distance learners must find an appropriate site to add to MySLP. You will need to do research in your community to find a site for your service learning course.
Provide the following required forms. Prospective site supervisors of distance learners must complete and send the following forms via Fax (831) 582-3568 or mail to the Service Learning Institute, Sixth Avenue, Bldg. 44, Seaside, CA 93955-8001 prior to student placement.
Community Site Visit Checklist is a tool for assessing the requirements, risks and basic safety factors of a site prior to student placement. A CSUMB staff or faculty person will visit a prospective organization and conduct a site visit if possible.
University Agency Agreement for the Placement of Students (UAAPS) is a formal agreement between CSUMB and the community-based organization. This agreement specifies expectations for each party, and formally indicates how issues of liability and worker's compensation will be handled. The contract must be renewed every 3 years.
