Covers a time period from the Colonial Era, the War of Independence and the Early Republic, Manifest Destiny and the expansion westward, the Civil War and Reconstruction, Immigration at the turn-of-the-century and the response of Nativists, Industrialization and Urbanization, through the Progressive Era. Takes a multicultural perspective and looks at the histories of diverse peoples in the struggle to realize democracy and freedom.
