Course provides analytical & critical lens for exploring culturally relevant literature for children and adolescents in pre K to 8 classrooms; discusses theoretical & practical issues surrounding the role of language & literacy development; examines various explicit & implicit socio-cultural symbols & structural features of literary genres, utilizing authentic texts. Students apply language & literacy knowledge to pedagogical approaches for teaching language arts within a multicultural context.(Coreq; LS 394S)
