Dr. YoungJoon Byun is a professor in the School of Computing and Design at California State University, Monterey Bay. Dr. Byun received his B.E. in Computer Engineering from the Kyungpook National University, Daegu, Korea, in 1991, his M.S. in Computer Science from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Daejon, Korea, in 1993, and his Ph.D. in computer and information science and engineering from the University of Florida, Gainesville, FL, in 2003.
Before joining to California State University, Monterey Bay, he was an assistant professor at the Pennsylvania State University at Erie, PA, from 2004 to 2006. Between 1993 and 1998, he worked for the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, Daejon, Korea, as a member of research staff.
His research interests include cost-effective design and validation of software
development for a communication system. He has proposed and demonstrated a pattern-based software development methodology that emphasizes the analysis and validation of important functionalities of a communication system in the early stage of a software development. He has proposed several communication patterns for the specification of a system and showed feasibility of them in a large-scale software development. He is also interested in software development environments and tools, distance e-Learning, and real-time systems.
Dr. Byun has been involved in several research and development projects in companies and universities. Some of the projects include software testing analysis tool for real-time programs, a web-based GUI for a software fault prediction tool, parallel and distributed testing environment for switching systems, etc.
Dr. Byun has served on the committees of a number of conferences, including ACM Symposium on Applied Computing, International ACM conference on Management of Emergent Digital EcoSystems, and Research in Applied Computation Symposium. He is a member of ACM.
