Biography

Wesley Henry is an Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership and Administration. Prior to joining the Department of Education and Leadership at Cal State Monterey Bay, he worked as the Director of Academic Program Review and Strategy for the University of Washington Graduate School, where he oversaw a portfolio of special projects and academic program review for all undergraduate and graduate programs across the three UW campuses. As a graduate student, Wesley was a University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA) David L. Clark Scholar and served on the UCEA Graduate Student Council. While in Seattle, Wesley served for six years on the KCTS 9 (PBS) and Cascade Public Media Community Advisory Board representing western and central Washington and British Columbia, including a term as Chair of the Board.

Wesley began his teaching career as a public high school English and public speaking teacher in the School District of Philadelphia and later taught graduate and undergraduate courses for the University of Washington College of Education and the University of Washington Bothell School of Educational Studies. Wesley's doctoral dissertation explored school and district administrators' learning-focused leadership in improving rural schools in Washington state and administrators' efforts to close achievement and opportunity gaps through collaboration with local communities. Wesley's research interests are rooted in better understanding the professional learning of adults, the role such development can play in setting organizational dynamics within educational settings, and the role of school and community leaders in equity-focused school improvement and community development.
