Biography

Dr. Harris is a Professor Emeritus and one of the founding faculty members of CSUMB. He has served on the faculty of several campuses of the University of California (Berkeley, Los Angeles, Riverside, Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz) and the California State University system (Bakersfield, Monterey Bay, Northridge, San Francisco and San Jose) as well as Harvard University,the University of Hawai'i Hilo, Northeastern University and Suffolk University in Boston. He has also served on the faculty of the University of the Americas in Puebla, Mexico, the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana in Mexico City, the University of Ibadan in Nigeria, the Universidad de Chile in Santiago; the Universidad de Santiago del Estero in Argentina and the University of Zambia. He has authored and edited books, monographs and journal articles on globalization, international political economy, development, comparative public administration, global health, democracy, socialism, African and Latin American politics, China's relations with Latin America and the Caribbean and transpacific relations. Dr. Harris lives in Hawai'i and California.

Areas of Interest: Globalization, global politics, African, Chinese and Latin American affairs, US foreign policy, international development, democracy, global health, public administration, organizational change and transpacific relations.

Editorial Experience: Dr. Harris has been the Managing Editor of the Journal of Developing Societies (SAGE India) since 2003, co-editor from 1998 to 2002, and one of the coordinating editors of Latin American Perspectives (SAGE USA) since 1977.

Fellowships and Grants: Rockefeller Foundation Research Grant (Nigeria), Fulbright Lecturer and Research Scholar in Argentina, Brazil, Peru and Zambia; National Science Foundation Grant (USA and Mexico), Ford Foundation Grant (Chile); the Russell Sage Foundation (USA) and a National Defense Foreign Language Fellowship for the study of Swahili and Afrikaans
