Biography

Ondine Gage is an Assistant Professor of Education in the Department of Liberal Studies at CSU, Monterey Bay. Ondine earned an M.A. in Linguistics, and then taught ESL and linguistics for 15 years before returning to pursue a Ph.D. in Education, concentrating in Language, Literacy, and Culture studies. Her areas of research include the development of vocabulary and language awareness within elementary and middle school classroom contexts. With a specialization in language acquisition and language awarness, Ondine’s current interests include using linguistics to enhance preservice teachers' Language Awareness and Word Consciousness, concepts which are central to language development and comprehension for literacy development.

She has also worked as a Language Consultant and professional speaker, lecturing on language teaching methodology in South Korea as well as throughout California, Washington, Oregon, Texas, Iowa, Colorado, and Alaska in the United States. She has over 10 years of leadership experience, serving as a chapter representative for both the Saroyan and Steinbeck Chapters of California Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (CATESOL), a nonprofit professional development organization for language teachers. Additionally, Ondine has contributed to organizing over 15 professional conferences.

As an analytic observer, she is passionate about ideas and reads widely. Ondine believes that ideas are infectious, “Our strength lies in our diversity and the multiple perspectives which we bring to the table. With decorum, creativity and collaboration, we can to transcend any issue.” Her hobbies include yoga, hiking, biking and social dancing.
