Biography

Juan-José Gutiérrez is responsible for the Cultural Anthropology Concentration at the Social Behavioral and Global Studies Division of the California State University, Monterey Bay, California. He earned a Ph.D. degree in Cultural Anthropology at UC Santa Barbara in 1997. He has has been the director of the Institute for Mexican and Mexico US Studies and vice president of the International Oral History Association (IOHA). He has also served as the Spanish Language Editor of the IOHA official peer reviewed journal Words and Silences and currently serves as member of the International Board of the Oxford based Oral History Journal. His academic interests include migration, rural development, pedagogy, and higher education. He is a member of the California State University Council for International Education and Director of the CSUMB Global Service Learning Spain Program.
