Biography

Dr. Kao is a Licensed Professional Counselor (OK LIC#6383) and has her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (PsyD) from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology - Los Angeles and her BA in Psychology and minor in Sociology from The College of William and Mary. Dr. Kao completed her pre-doctoral internship in a dual-diagnosis facility running daily groups, conducting individual therapy, completing insurance utilization reviews, and participating in daily interdisciplinary treatment teams alongside nutritionists, psychiatrists, house managers, and staff. Previous clinical experience includes working in community mental health, with at-risk youth, perpetrators and victims of domestic violence, court mandated, homeless, and geriatric populations.

Dr. Kao was full-time faculty at in the Psychology Department at Cameron University where she taught at the Master's and Undergraduate level. She continued to teach while working as a staff therapist at Open Arms Behavioral Health, LLC seeing clients, doing community outreach, and providing training seminars for local community members (nursing staff and family medicine intern residents, etc). Dr. Kao has enthusiasm for student learning, not only in academia, but also in supervising young professionals in the field.

Dr. Kao is passionate in working with military personnel and their families as well as the interdisciplinary clinical work in the holistic care of the client.
