Interdisciplinary inquiry into the quantitative dimension of sound and music. Topics include sound waves, sound perception, tuning, harmonic spectra (via Fourier analysis), music computation, and music notation, with creative and digital signal processing applications. Students design music notations and learn to edit and program electronic music with contemporary software tools. Concurrent enrollment in MPA 306: History of Electronic Music recommended.
