HCOM 445: Slavery & Race in the Americas

Course description

Examines the cultural, social, and political dimensions of slavery and race relations in Latin America, the Caribbean, and the United States. Readings and class discussions explore the development of slavery in countries such as Cuba, Haiti, and Brazil. Examines the impact of nationalist ideologies on contemporary racial dynamics in the region.   (Prereq: GE Areas A1 and A2 and A3 with a C- or better)
